Happy New Week! Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE.
The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is WC110813 (in case you ever need to find it using the search box).
(WC stands for Weekly Chat. 11 is the day, 08 is the month, and 13 is the year. I will always follow this format.)
Don't forget to watch for the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight and tomorrow night. If you have cloudy skies, you can watch the online webcasts. See my post at the end of last week's chat thread.
Sending good energy to Margo, Patricia, NiteOwl, Buzz, and anyone else who is dealing with adversity.
I haven't seen Lynette posting for a while. Lynette, I hope you have recovered well from your operation!!!
Also, sending a shout out to Auntie in Finland, who's probably working very hard at her career, and to DJoanS -- also to Caerann in Chicago (I thought of her this week).
Unknown said:AQ: Only 149 duck pix? 400 pix on one battery charge, eh - are there that many churches in the area?
Probably LOL. After all Adelaide was once known as the "City of Churches". "The exact derivation of the description of Adelaide as the 'city of churches' is unknown. Certainly the term was in use before 1872 when the English novelist Anthony Trollope quoted it in his book Australia and New Zealand. An earlier reference occurs" in 1868 newspaper. [State Library website]But I take multiple pics of each church with close-ups of interesting features.
Good Morning: Half an hour ago, I wrote a whole pile of replies to Everyone, then started to put on some of my pics too. Then my PC screen seized up and I had to switch the whole thing off!
Now I have to go out, so no time to do it all again.
Heather: I hope you're having a wonderful time in France.AQ: Pacific Black Ducks, Yay! My favorite ducks. Great job with the new camera. Annette: Congrats on finishing Mona Lisa!OG: I hope you get the utilities all sorted. What a nasty problem to come home to.Lindy: Sorry you lost your replies. Sometimes technology is mean.Brenda: Hope the puppy hasn't worn you out.Hi to Lynette, Clare, Limpy, Mulberry, NiteOwl and everyone.Speaking of dogs, my friends have asked me to come to Indianapolis this weekend to pet-sit for the five dogs and the cat. It was a last-minute request. His bluegrass band is appearing at Irish Fest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and his wife and her family decided to go to the festival with him. So I'll be sleeping in a pile of dogs tonight. I'll try to keep in touch if I have access to their computer/tablet. I'll be back on Tuesday.Everyone have a great weekend.
Hi, Diane! You mean to say they don't use the cat to keep the dogs in order? Sounds like you've got an interesting weekend ahead of you.
My managing director runs a bluegrass festival locally - your friends would get on with him very well!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Clare: The cat is, indeed, formidable. She's part feral and has her own exclusive bedroom that she stays in (away from the dogs). Besides my friend, I'm the only one in the world that the cat will accept in close proximity to her. When the vet has to see her, he just opens the crate and sticks a sedative in her. His staff is terrified of her.
I'd love to attend your local bluegrass festival! Irish Fest is very popular and is a celebration of Irish heritage and culture, so my friends are looking forward to the trip to Milwaukee.
LOL! She sounds like quite a character!
There's a new Blog from Jen confirming that we still have all four ospreys.
Good evening, all. It's been an interesting day today - for a change, I did a full day at work today instead of my usual four hours. This happens very rarely - in our small office there are only three of us (including me) and it's normally the case that we can't take time off if one of the other two will be off. However, every so often the odd day pops up - so, for one glorious day, I was in charge! It was actually very quiet so I got essential things done like defrosting the freezer compartment in the fridge, and (inevitably) catching up with my filing. Every so often, though, the odd bloke's head would pop through the office door just to say hello and was I all right? Awwww. I must say that I work for a lovely company and I'm very fortunate.
It was just as well I had a quiet day at work as I now do something new on a Friday evening - the dreaded Legs, Bums and Tums class! I've now been doing this for several weeks. The first week nearly killed me - my flexibility is all right but my aerobic capacity almost non-existent! I managed to persevere, though, and I now come out feeling human. Almost. I haven't lost much weight but everything is feeling tighter.
Tomorrow is an exciting day in the household - Helen is joining the world of work! At her riding school you can volunteer to work on the yard - you don't get paid cash but you do get extra riding lessons. As she's now thirteen she has been quite keen to have a go at this and she's looking forward to tomorrow. It'll look great on her CV, too.
I haven't said this for a while, but I must say, Margo - we're still thinking about you. You take care - we all wish to see you back on here, feeling better and enjoying the birds.
Evening all:
Lindybird: Condolences on the lost post!
Diane: Enjoy (!?!) the weekend in Indianapolis.
AQ: City of churches, eh? Wonder how many bars (pubs) there were in those days.
Clare: It's alarming how aerobic capacity can drop off so quickly. I want to start another yoga class (but not one of the new-fangled competitive ones); and my gym has a stretch class I'd like to go to, but it's in the evenings, right at dinner time. :-( Congrats to Helen; that's a lovely first job for a young girl. So nice that you've got good work colleagues; makes all the difference...
Margo: Special huge hugs to you; do hope you're feeling a bit better now you're home.Special huge hugs to you; do hope you're feeling a bit better now you're home.
Visited a friend (from Scotland) who lives in SB and has just bought a house with a fab view of the city, mountains, beaches, etc. I offered to move in or at least rent out their patio; then to my volunteer gig, then to the gym. Tomorrow it's brunch with three other friends and then have to get serious about cleaning the BBQ coz it's been flaring up a lot lately. Ugh.
Have a good Saturday everyone.

Morning everybody, 9 nights out of 9 complete!
Clare - What's the odd bloke's name? Hope he's not too odd. My sister did her YTS (Youth Training Scheme) as a 16-year old at her local riding school, learning to be a riding instructor. She even had her picture in the Huddersfield Examiner when she taught a lady in her late 60's to ride! Unfortunately, it clashed a bit with her teenage lifestyle, and she got the sack for turning up late one time too many after a night out. She's currently arranging for her horse to be moved down to Cornwall from West Yorkshire.
Incidentally, saw this ad in the Felixstowe Star when we were down there...
Just watching last nights The Burrowers on TV on the BBC iplayer. Cute little bunnies! "...Where the waaaabit, where the waaaabit!!"
