Weekly Chat, Sunday March 7

Hi all. Off to read last week's latest posts.

  • OG : I will have to see what I can do re the Thunderdog. He is sleeping at the moment after his "ordeal".

Latest from Rome : Alice & Virgilio now have one egg:

  • Hi Alan, I bet Hamish is feeling a little chilly now he's been shorn!

Great news about the camera on Lagoon 4. Wonder if it replaces the one at Manton Bay or if it is in addition to that one. I guess it won't be live streaming but updating every few seconds.

  • Hi Sandy, Not sure about the camera details. I am assuming it is an additional camera. It would be great if we had live streaming from both nests occupied at Manton Bay and Lagoon 4. We shall have to wait and see.

  • OG, Thanks for the information on the barnacle geese. It is interesting to hear of the co-operation of the organisations and the farmers. Good to hear of a success story.

AQ, Thanks for the further history lessons. I find it most interesting to read of the progression and how they coped with the movement of goods. The telegraph system must have been a tremendous feat to complete. I looked up the Ghan Railway and have to admit, I was extremely slow to realise why it was called Ghan. Oh dear, maybe I should have a lie down!!

Diane, I think I get the message about visiting a Heronry, but would still love to see them. I don't think I could take my OH with me, as he even hates passing the fish counter in the supermarket because of the smell. I have saved the link to the heron webcam. Thank you.

  • As requested. Picture of the thunderdog after grooming:

  • Good afternoon original goldfinch I am fine but had to go out this morning.  Have lots of birthdays this month and needed cards.  Have just caught up with everything now.  It is another gorious day here now but we had another hard frost last night.  I have never had to defrost the bird baths so much as I have this year. Will be going out all day Wednesday so I will miss not spening time chatting to everyone.  We are going up to London to the Houses of Parliament to see PM's question time so that should be interesting.  OH has said I must not offer any of my opinions up so will do my best not to get thrown out.

My birds are so hungry first thing with all this cold weather.  I always make sure there is some for them first thing but it is getting lighter now and they have usually managed to clear everything lot long after I get up.

As I type this I have Lily cam on and little Hope is such a noisy little girl.  She is obviously being fed but she dictates when she has had enough not Lily.  She gets herself into a right strop beut I just love listenting to her.  I always smile too when Lily is having a good old snore, sounds like the OH at times.  Just popped in to the Lily cam and saw her and Hope, looks like Lily is bathing her little girl although she would rather be feeding so she is complaining a bit.

Thanks to all for the links, photos and news.  Was sad to read in Alan's post that one of the Star Ranch owletss has died.  This is nature though and for the youngest it is always a struggle to surviive but reading through the posts on that site plenty of food seems to be coming in, and the older ones seem to be doing well.

Alan hope we will be able to see Hamish looking very handsome now.   Does he sulk when he has his haircut.  My sister's springer spaniel is never very keen on being shorn but he soon gets over it.

Well done do Patricat and her four legged friends too.

    Have a good afternoon all.

Watched the Tottenham match with OH but didn't find it very entertaining.  I just hope they win the replay.

Not if we're to get anything done other than watch osprey nests all day!!

I'll be over the moon (to coin a footie phrase) if 32(05) and his unringed mate return to nest at Lagoon 4 so we can once again observe an active nest from the hides. Not long to wait now!

  • Hello everyone ! (says he, skulking back on the board)

I made a pact with myself to try and be better at keeping up but found have got worse at it:((

Hope everyone is doing OK. Enjoyed reading all the latest posts:)

Here on the East Coast, spring seems to have arrived. Had 3 days of about 10 degrees and a couple more to come. Now, i don't want the cold back, thank you very much
