Chat Extravaganza Sunday Feb 21st

Here I am, awaiting the snow machine to crank up again Sunday afternoon. Expecting 8 to 12 inches new snow on top of 3 or 4 we still have from last storm. Oh bother!  Can you tell I'm not very enthused?????

So to pick up from the last of our thread:

Annette:  Do tell us how the Pale Male movie was, please.

Some fascinating new news on the Peregrine Falcon front from Derby Cathedral (it's snowing there as I watch at 11:15 p.m. Chicago time) where they've finally let us in on the secret hinted at in the blog from last month.

I believe I'm off for the night now. Happy Sunday to all!

  • AQ: Just googled images of Burra - it's looks a lot like some of our western towns. Interesting that some of the town fathers built grandiose courthouses, etc, in these far away places. Also, another "must have" in some western U.S. towns (in addition to churches and bars) was an opera house!  Some pretty famous performers used to travel from town to town bringing culture to the locals. Fascinating. Many are still standing (opera houses that is, not locals!).

  • Evening Folks, I have had a very busy day but nothing really interesting to tell you about., but am now enjoying following the various leads and reading AQ's further history report and restaurant menu. Thanks AQ. Alan, Good to hear Hammish has got the 'All Clear'.  Emma, Sorry to hear about your daughter and that she missed her concert.  George,  You are having such a sad and worrying time, but it must be reassuring for your friend that you are there to help.

I know I have missed answering many posts, so please forgive me. We saw the sun for a couple of hours this afternoon but raining again now.

  • Thanks Tiger. Fantastic photographs. I had never thought of an osprey fighting an eagle, but then if the eagle keeps stealing your fish supper, you just have to retaliate.

  • Phlebotomist was back this time, so did not have senior nurse leaving me like a pincushion as before (after which another nurse had to do it properly a week later!).  Also had BP checked – reasonably satisfactory – then went for latte and carrot cake.  Weather just nondescript and cold this afternoon.  Had an email yesterday from a friend in Texas – she was having more snow!

Enjoyed the Ospreys and Sparrows link and the Osprey attack on Eagle – thanks Alan and Tiger respectively.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • My Burra photo was there . . . then it wasn't . . . then it was back. Now it has gone again. Maybe the gremlins censured it for not having any birds in it. LOL. Not sure whether to post it again.

OG & Annette - So glad you found the Burra History site. I meant to include it. http://www.burrahistory.info/

The sun is just up. (Sunrise 6.58 am, sunset 7.58 pm). Whoopee, the days are getting shorter - so it should get cooler. This week high 20s and low 30s. and no ghastly heatwaves in sight. (She crosses fingers.)

  • AQ, if we were having temperatures in the low 30's, we would be having a heatwave. I have been reading the 'Burra history'  site. Thank you. Someone has already reported  to technical dept. about photographs appearing and disappearing.Hopefully they will fix the problem.

OG,  good to hear you didn't end up as a pincushion today and then enjoyed your latte.  I try to time our shopping/ walk etc. so that we can have lunch out.

  • Thanks Brenda for info about tech problems with photos. I just lost my post - trying again. I haven't been sure whether it is them or us. Himself yesterday supposedly upgraded to make things faster. Well, so far, I think either 'tis slower or I lose the connection. His problem to fix, not mine. LOL.

  • Evening all:   Did a lot of small errands today and got a lot of little things crossed of my "to do" list; went to gym, made salad for dinner.  Going up to daughter's tomorrow and plan to drive to Nojoqui Falls in the valley to check out the waterfall. Will take Oro so he can run about. Should be sunny, but then more rain Friday and beyond.

Tiger: Great shots of osprey vs eagle. Thank you.  OG: Glad your doc visit didn't interfere with latte and carrot cake routine!  Texas has had a lot of snow this year and, from what I can tell, much farther south than normal.  AQ; Just visited the Burra history site and browsed through the historic photos - just fascinating. I love looking at old photos - as they say "A picture is worth a thousand words."  Glad you can see cooler days ahead!

Hope everyone else is okay!  :-)

  • Pootled about doing nothing last evening – slept a better night.  Sky has apparently been cloudy, so no frost, and dawn now breaking through – no precipitation of wet or white kind.  Up north has it bad again, and another fatal avalanche in Glencoe yesterday.

AQ – I hope your weather remains comfortable through autumn – still sounds rather hot to me! I often find upgrades by OH appear to make things worse  - or interfere with other applications – I try to keep him off (“if it ain’t broke don’t mend it!”) till I really get stuck for techie help!

Annette – enjoy your day out with Daughter and Oro while the dry weather holds.  Have to drive by Coffee Lounge coming home from Doc’s, so ‘tis logical to stop off there – ‘twas a bit late really, so postponed dinner by half hour.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
