Chat Extravaganza Sunday Feb 21st

Here I am, awaiting the snow machine to crank up again Sunday afternoon. Expecting 8 to 12 inches new snow on top of 3 or 4 we still have from last storm. Oh bother!  Can you tell I'm not very enthused?????

So to pick up from the last of our thread:

Annette:  Do tell us how the Pale Male movie was, please.

Some fascinating new news on the Peregrine Falcon front from Derby Cathedral (it's snowing there as I watch at 11:15 p.m. Chicago time) where they've finally let us in on the secret hinted at in the blog from last month.

I believe I'm off for the night now. Happy Sunday to all!

  • Thanks Alan for the news about the Dunedin nest, lets hope all 3 make it.

    Margobird

  • Been watching the eagle sitting on the nest by the sea.  She looks peaceful.

Shopping mission accomplished thanks to help of OH who insisted on driving, & also lugged bag of stuff to the charity Shop while I leaned on the trolley in Sainsburys.  Bought the correct kind of cheese for our sandwiches we are to eat on the 'plane: might as well have what you fancy!  Quite happy these days to say 'No thanks' to the awful plastic airline food, & just have our own.

Alan:    See you have your halo on today, after doing your bit for the environment.  Carefully sorted out our papers & cardboard at Christmastime, only for OH to watch the collection Men put it all together in the back of a truck later.

Off for a sit down with a cup of tea, now, I'm whacked.

  • There is a stork at Bornheim. That must be a sign of spring. See http://www.pfalzstorch.de/bilder/live1.html

There is a stork webcam superlink at  http://www.bocianyonline.pl/kamery_en.html

I find storks a bit depressing to watch. They have a tough love attitude to chick rearing.

  • NEW BLOG and Rothes sits tight.

  • Hi all: Late visit this morning - had to do a bunch of bill-payment entries on OH's computer. Now off for major shopping mission to two stores; then home to see if whale watch is on today.  Read all the posts and will do so again later when I have a chance to respond. Take care - and stay well and warm!

  • Just enjoyed seeing a Goshawk (tame)  on the One Show this evening. She was a beautiful bird with, we were told, a 3ft wingspan.

Dramatic photos on the News of the devastating floods in Madeira.  They had sudden storms causing flash floods:  most of the deaths (at least 42) were people taken unawares, in their cars. We keep having reminders of how powerful nature can be.

  • Well, we completed the Garden Centre Mission – no frozen raspberries (only mixed with other fruit), but accomplished everything else – and more!  Came home to chicken korma dinner – always make it ahead in the morning as the flavour deepens as it stands.  I made the engagement congrats card this evening.

Alan – good to have positive sightings of migrants moving northward.

Lindybird – hope you will feel stronger tomorrow for the packing.

Sorry no more replies tonight – head a bit thick again – it improved during the day, but seems to go off again in the evening.  Must get to hairdresser tomorrow as it was postponed by OH’s dizziness last week so I resemble a haystack as well as feeling as if I’m stuck in the middle of one!  Good night all.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi all: Couldn't get on the site at one point today. Sigh.   Saw 9 that's NINE whales today: 8 northbound in two groups of 3 and, as my shift was ending, another twosome, all between 1.5 and 2.5 miles out.  The ninth whale was heading south (a late-comer to the Mexican get-together) and snuck by close to shore while we were busy watching the northbound whales. We almost missed him/her  Pretty darn cold out there though - very strong wind whipping over the point and chilly in spite of the sun.   Got a call from OH reminding me that we have tickets to see the Chieftains tonight.  I'd totally forgotten, so have to paste myself together and try to look halfway respectable before we tootle off.  OG: I didn't wash my hair in the shower this morning and would've had I remembered the concert. Got windblown on the point today, so I'm now sporting a tangled haystack!

Take care all. Tomorrow should be a quiet day here.

  • Lindybird, Margobird, OG, and any others who are feeling poorly: I hope that you all are completely recovered soon! Sending healing energy to all of you...

Lindybird: Have a joyful, safe holiday. I look forward to photos and long descriptions of wonderful adventures when you return!!!

Annette: NINE whales!!! That's terrific. That must indicate a recovering population??? I hope you had a great time at the Chieftains. I enjoy their music. Your granddaughter is very bold to drive off alone on long trips through rugged terrain. I respect her fearlessness; I don't like to drive much. Glad she is safe after her recent adventure.

    Everyone have a great Tuesday.
