Chat Extravaganza Sunday Feb 21st

Here I am, awaiting the snow machine to crank up again Sunday afternoon. Expecting 8 to 12 inches new snow on top of 3 or 4 we still have from last storm. Oh bother!  Can you tell I'm not very enthused?????

So to pick up from the last of our thread:

Annette:  Do tell us how the Pale Male movie was, please.

Some fascinating new news on the Peregrine Falcon front from Derby Cathedral (it's snowing there as I watch at 11:15 p.m. Chicago time) where they've finally let us in on the secret hinted at in the blog from last month.

I believe I'm off for the night now. Happy Sunday to all!

  • Frosty start – now up to zero – bright blue sky – warm in the sunshine.  Usual birds – with extra Starlings today.  Going to Garden Centre later – not for lunch as we have some leftover minestrone soup I made yesterday and it’s too good to miss – shall have that first, then after-lunch coffee and cake when we get there!  Going for seeds, frozen raspberries from the food hall and crafting bits for an engagement card in the craft section.

Cirrus and Heron – good to see you on here Sunday evening – hope all is well with you.

Annette – pleased you found sofa of your choice and I hope it eventually fits in its proper location and able to open!  Sounds like the Crows film was worth waiting the extra hour for.

Emma – I tend to avoid most fantasy films – but I’m not good with films anyway – tend to fall asleep at anything after about 30 mins – this is why we record all our TV viewing and watch in small pieces.  We watched Titanic on video last week in about five instalments and I found it immensely boring!

AQ – lovely picture of Tree Dahlia – very cheery!

Diane – the nuptials have to wait until he graduates in 2011, and really need him to be working in Aberdeen (probably in oil) as she will still be studying there – medicine.  Re Corvid communications – I saw something once about roosting Ravens in Wales communicating the day’s doings each evening, so others knew the best feeding places the next day.

Annette – sorry to hear today’s Whale count may not happen.  Grand Daughter’s journey sounds horrendous – she could write a book!

Lindybird – pleased you felt better for yesterday evening, and hope the morning discomfort is wearing off.  I slept really well, then woke up with a very “thick head” but it seems to be clearing now.  Forgot to mention the first part of the proposal – he took her red roses and cooked her a meal Friday evening!  He is a very sensitive romantic boy – but also clever (a scientific analytical brain) and sporty!

BrendaH – sorry about your rain – and thanks for snow warning – I gather it may be due here Wednesday, or may miss us completely.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Tiger this is so sad to see a magnificent bird in such distress and having to be put to sleep.

  • Margobird - good to see you back - are you feeling better this week?  I do hope so.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning Lindybird and I am sorry you are not well.  I am sure all this proper winter weather we are having is just helping at alll.  I am slowly recovering but it is taking a while.  Wrap up warm and look after yourself.

  • Good morning Alan and are you still getting snow.  It has rained here a lot over the weekend and looks as though it will do for the rest of the week.

Thanks for the pics, and I had a chortle at your joke.  We need things like this to brighten things up a bit.

Terribly sad about Sassy but the last time I saw her it did not look good so hoping that othe otber humming bird chicks will make it although when I watched on Friday they looked to be in good health.

The eagle nest is just fantastic especially when they zoom right in and you can see each individual feather.  Love to watch Dad doing the housework only to have Mum rearrange it all when she returns.

Have a good day and keep warm.

  • auntie your weather is unbelievably cold do keep warm and take care if you go out.

  • Good morning Annette thanks for that link which I have looked at but can't see where you can watch some clips from the film.  Didn't realise there was so much of a story for these 2 but you have to go to Lincoln's photograps taken Sunday, they are absolutely stunning and you can see how busy they both are bringing nest building material in.  It would be wonderful if they could manage to successfully raise a family this year.

  • Lovely photo  aquilareen  could do with some of that sunshine here.  I am wondering whether winter is ever going to end.  Evenings and mornings are getting lighter but still cold and very damp.

  • Hi og:   Sorry to hear you are still not over your bad cold.  I always think that as we stay indoors a lot in winter, & don't open the windows as much, the dry air doesn't really help to clear the head. Hope you feel better as the day progresses.  Your g.son sounds just wonderful - would marry him myself if  I wasn't promised to another!  (seem to remember dimly my now OH going down on one knee to propose, but it wasn't in a romantic setting)

Just got caught out by Husband, out in the garden without a coat on, filling up my bird feeders.  I had to point out that as I'm wearing about 4 layers of clothing already, & resemble a blue polar bear, I didn't feel too cold.

Did enjoy watching the BAFTAS last night:  the Best Actor was duly won by Colin Firth, who also made the most amusing speech.  Also an emotional acceptance of the Fellowship by Vanessa Redgrave.  Not as many awards for 'Avatar' as were expected, I suspect:  but then, they will probably sweep the board at the Oscars.  A lot of praise (& awards) for a new film I've not seen, called ' The Hurt Locker' which is about the war in Iraq.

Must off now, to do a Shopping Mission (will try not to breathe on anyone in the queue) which must be done. Will have another sit down when I return, & then finish the holiday packing for imminent break (we go Wednesday).
