As reported on a previous blog, the dead osprey found back in April in Perthshire was a Loch Garten bird, a male, ringed 5th July 1996, leg-ring red/white TA on right leg. One of a brood of three young that year.

And here they are:  We have managed to unearth some photos taken at the ringing way back then.

From left to right: Roy Dennis, Richard Thaxton (holding TA) and Dan Tomes - Osprey Warden 1996,  17 years ago.  Don't we all look young!  For my part, I started working for RSPB when I was 8 years old.......

Many thanks to any of you who came along last night to Derek Niemann's brilliant his book Birds in a Cage. There were 65 people in all, to enjoy Derek's fascinating account of the four POW pals, of whom one George Waterston, established Operation Osprey at Loch Garten back in 1959.
