It's been a fantastic day for birds here today, with several good records for the site and a species I haven't seen since I first started working here over two years ago! Here is my day list....
2 green sandpipers - one on Phase 2 and the other on Phase 3
150 lapwing over Phase 3
1 jack snipe on Phase 2 - I had a brilliant view of this bird as it flew up in front of me
2 goldeneye - the first of the winter with 2 females on Phase 3
4 swallows heading towards the Trent over Phase 2
15 redwing calling overhead, flying east over Phase 2
100 fieldfare heading north west over Phase 3 - my first for the winter on site
160 starlings gathering over the large willow trees on the reserve's southern boundary - perhaps a winter roost starting here
and the star bird of the day....a beautiful sanderling feeding on the old silt lagoon 7. An uncommon passage species at Langford, this is the first I have seen on site since I started over 2 years ago, when a spring individual was on silt lagoon 6.
