Our monthly WeBS counts give us a good idea, albeit a snapshot, of what species are on the reserve and how many of them there are. The recent heavy rainfalls have brought up water levels in the River Trent and on the reserve too, this has potentially impacted on the number of individuals of some species recorded, avocets being a good example (down from 34 birds last month). 29 different species were recorded though with the bittern and Caspian gull being among the highlights.
