Apologies if I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but we have unprecedented visitor numbers on site at the moment. We never get massive numbers, but our previous highest count in November was 229 and this year we had 1229. Exactly 1000 more. Please bear this in mind, as you may well need a bit of patience when parking and when walking up to the reserve. The site is used by a range of people and so please do be considerate and allow space for social distancing, particularly at pinch points around the car park and on the narrow public footpath, making sure there's enough space for other visitors to safely get passed you. Stick on a mask if appropriate. We don't want to fully in the footsteps of the Nottingham Christmas Market!!?

Lots of great winter wildlife reported recently. Massed flocks of redwing and fieldfare. Skeins of pink-footed geese overhead. Short-eared owl hunting on site. Whooper swans passing through. A dwindling but still impressive starling murmuration (latest count c.10000 birds). Goldeneye, stonechats, marsh harrier and pintails.

Stay safe!
