The Nottingham RSPB Local Members Group made their annual visit to Langford Lowfields last Wednesday evening. Twenty-five members made the trip and were pleased to see how the site has developed since their visit last year.
The weather was quite kind to us and even pleasant by the end of the evening.
Whilst July can prove to be a rather dull time bird-wise, we did see common tern, sparrowhawk, little egret and were treated to numereous 'fly-pasts' by rather raucous oystercatchers. However, the best was saved until last, when a member of the group spotted a female pochard with a duckling. Pochard is a rarer breeding bird than one might think, so this was a real treat, especially whilst being simulataneously wowed by our sand martin bank!
Just to top the evening off, we picked out a yellow-legged gull, roosting amongst a group of gulls on our return back to the office.
