Autumn migration continues here at Langford, with another good haul of waders dropping into the site. Recent reports have included black-tailed godwit, knot, dunlin, ringed plover, green sandpiper, common sandpiper, ruff and whimbrel. The two knot on Friday 21st August were very confiding indeed as they fed quite happily around us as we planted reed out on Phase 3 - lovely.

Our great white egret count has now gone up to 6, with 5 seen together on Phase 3 last week, with another on the silt lagoon at the same time. They are brilliant additions to the reserve and I had two of them on Phase 1 from the Cromwell Trail on the 18th August.

A goosander flew over the reserve on the 22nd August, not a common bird here at Langford, they turn up less than annually. After the very early reports of Goldeneye out on Phase 3 from a few weeks ago, we had another 'early bird' last week, with a pintail being seen on Phase 3.

2 peregrines are around, along with 4 ravens reported from the pylon near the car park at the weekend and a whinchat on Phase 1 near the 'Corfe Castle' viewing platform on the 18th August.

Our volunteers have been busy on site as always, with our Monday crew cutting the southern boundary public footpath, the Friday crew finishing off some fencing along the western boundary and now onto reed planting on Phase 3 and our 'wandering warden/beach hut' team have been keeping an eye on the site for us and sending us some of their wildlife sightings.
