The weather forecasters will tell us that it's the 1st of March and that it is the first day of spring. Hoorah! So what's happening at Langford Lowfields.
We are on the lookout for summer migrants coming in and we have heard our first chiffchaff singing on the reserve. The first avocet of the year called in and although we have seen bitterns we await the first boom of the season. Exciting times.

Our seasonal trail is now closed for the breeding season but there is plenty to see from the Beach Hut and the footpaths in the parts of the reserve open to the public. The River Trent has receded and we avoided severe flooding by a whisker, but parts of the reserve are still a bit wet. The footpath on the outside of the southern boundary is very wet so take care in that area.
National Grid contractors are continuing their maintenance work on the pylon near our car park so please go slowly through the working area. There could be delays to make sure that everyone keeps safe.
From Wednesday 9 March, Cadent Gas will be closing Cottage Lane which leads to our car park. They are doing essential maintenance work so we will have to access Cottage Lane from the other end.
Directions from the Newark direction: Continue north past Cottage Lane on the A1133, and take the next turning on the left (The Green). Turn left into Church St and then continue straight on into Cottage Lane. The reserve entrance is on the right after about 1km.
Directions from Collingham; Turn off the A1133 into The Green. Turn left into Church St and then continue straight on into Cottage Lane. Keep going and the reserve entrance is on the right after about 1km.
As the weather improves, Langford Lowfields will be bursting into Spring so the diversion will be worth it.
We look forward to welcoming you.
