Excitingly we've got an exotic glossy ibis on site at the moment and for the last 2 days it's been giving excellent close up views as it feeds on one of the islands near to the 360 degree viewing screen. The photo below was taken today by Stuart Carlton and captures the moment the ibis was commenting on how delicious the Langford Lowfields frogs are. These birds are very nomadic and are turning up in the UK on a more frequent basis, probably coming from the breeding colonies in Spain. It is however only the second to ever be recorded on the reserve.
Other birds of note seen today were 4 hobbies (we had 7 reported earlier this week), a marsh harrier, a red kite, avocets (at least 10 on site at the moment), common terns, oystercatchers, a female cuckoo and singing Cetti's warblers. These can be added to the list of other amazing birds we've hosted at Langford this week including a common scoter, turnstones, turtle dove and a fly-over osprey.
