Perhaps unsurprisingly, Langford is currently in the process of filling up with water. After the recent heavy rain, the River Trent came up enough last night to start sneaking over the top of the flood-bank. At the time of writing, the river is still rising and still pouring in, with our water levels on the reserve rapidly rising. Because of this only a short section of the Visitor Trail leading away from the Beach Hut (a section which has never flooded) is currently open. We'll be monitoring the situation as things develop. Of note, 19 Great White Egrets were on site feeding in the flood water this morning and a Green-winged Teal was on the reserve over the weekend (long-distance record short below, taken by James Wilkinson).

In terms of the December WeBS, counting the usual suspects was made a lot easier by the fact greylag numbers have plummeted by over 1000.
