Finally the Floating Bridge is open again! After waiting patiently for a few months for the water levels to come up, they are now at a suitable level for the bridge to be floating, meaning it can be walked on without being damaged. This also means the small circular loop on the reserve is now open again. A walk round this loop today gave me excellent views of goldeneyeswigeonsreed buntings and a bittern tucked into the reeds next to the floating bridge, water rails were squealing and a Cetti's warbler was singing in front of the Beach Hut. There has also been a water pipit on site recently, it was seen on both days over the weekend and is a first record for the site, I've not seen it yet but Langford is a big place and it could easily be feeding somewhere out of view, so keep your eyes peeled for it!

For the first time we have set up a Christmas Trail around the reserve for children to follow. It starts at the Beach Hut and loops round the reserve, probably taking about 45 minutes to do once you've got to the Beach Hut. Just pick up one of the Christmas Trail sheets, grab a pencil, stick £1 in the donation box and then start following the trail round the reserve.
