Our annual Big Wild Sleepout camping event is now only a month away, and it will take place on Saturday 28 July. Here is some more information about the event:

Why not come and camp under the stars here at RSPB Lakenheath Fen? For the first time this year, we will be going a bit wilder by camping in the sandy area in Brandon Fen. This will be a five minute walk from the car park and a 10 minute walk from the toilets.

This image shows you the kind of terrain that we will be camping in this year:

After we have pitched our tents and had a briefing, we will go for a dusk walk to look for barn owls and listen to bats using special bat detectors. After a short break, we will then toast marshmallows around the camp fire, which will be a short walk from the camping area.

After breakfast the following morning, we will see which colourful moths were trapped on the reserve the night before. Highlights will include seeing impressive poplar hawkmoths and elephant hawkmoths.

There will then be a bird ringing demonstration by local bird ringer Simon Evans to see some of our resident in the hand. If you are lucky, you may even be able to hold one of the birds that has been ringed and then release it.

Price includes all of the activities and the reserve entrance fee for non-members. Price also includes breakfast on the Sunday morning, which will consist of a breakfast bap and continental breakfast.

Please bring your own tent and camping gear!
