Mere Hide will be closed tomorrow (until around 4pm) as we undertake some essential maintenance work, both on the hide itself and in the area in front of the hide.

As the hide has now been in place for a good few years, we’re going to take advantage of the autumn sunshine and give the hide a coat of paint, in order to keep it in prime condition.

We’re also going to be doing the annual reed cutting around the back of the pool, to open up the views and hopefully encourage our secretive reedbed residents out into the open.

Whilst we’re out there we’ll also give the kingfisher perches and bearded grit trays a little tlc, in preparation for the winter. Making sure their ready and available for excellent photographic opportunities. Just like this one, with thanks to regular visitor Ken Clegg for this photo:

If we don’t quite get finished tomorrow, we may be out working in front of the hide again on Friday, please ask in the visitor centre for more details when you arrive.

Both Joist Fen and New Fen North viewpoints will be unaffected by this work and open for business as usual.

We apologise for any inconvenience/disruption this may cause and will get the work completed as soon as we can!
