It's Thursday 1 December so that means that Christmas is now officially coming. In order to mark this occasion, I thought I would dedicate this blog post to some of the things that will be going on here on the lead up to the big day and also to tell you about our Christmas opening times.
Things will start in earnest on Saturday 3 December with the the RSPB Lakenheath Fen Kingfisher's December Wildlife Explorer's Club meeting. This month's meeting is entitled: "Deck the visitor centre with boughs of holly". We will be making Christmas decorations, playing party games and other festive activities. Please follow this link to find out more.
The next thing to look out for is local wildlife artist and reserve volunteer Rob Dyke's wildlife art exhibition in the visitor centre. This will take place from the afternoon of Wednesday 7 December- Wednesday 21 December. Please read this blog post for more information.
The last reserve event of 2016 will be "A clattering, a parliament and a murder." this is a guided walk which will take place on Sunday 11 December 2.30pm-4.30pm. It will focus on the corvid roost in the poplar woods, which sometimes contains up to 40,000 carrion crows, rooks and jackdaws. If you have never seen a large corvid roost, it can be really rather spectacular so why not come along and join the walk. There are still plenty of spaces available so please follow this link to find out how to book your place.
There reserve will be open at all times throughout the festive period. The visitor centre will then be open daily 9am-5pm until Christmas Eve, when the visitor centre and toilets will close at lunchtime. The visitor centre and toilets will then be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The visitor centre and toilets will reopen on Tuesday 27 December and will then be open daily 9am-4pm until Monday 2 January. Normal opening hours, with the visitor centre and toilets being open daily 9am-5pm. will resume on Tuesday 3 January.
I will leave you with a picture of the reserve Christmas tree, which was put up by volunteer John yesterday:
We hope to see you soon!
