If you haven’t already heard, we are very proud to be hosting Chris Packham’s UK BioBlitz 2018 on Sunday 22 July.
You can find out more about the BioBlitz and why Chris Packham is doing it here.
We have a selection of guided walks and talks planned during the day. Please see below for the provisional plan:
8am Bioblitz officially starts. Moths – Katherine Puttick and Rob Dyke
9am – Bird walk – David White
10.30am - Plants focus on brambles - Alex Prendergast
11.30am – General nature walk covering butterflies and dragonflies, and anything else – David White
12noon – BirdTrack – Scott Mayson
2.30pm – Plant walk focus on fenland flowers – Katherine Puttick
2pm – Spiders – Terry Stopher
3.30pm – Fungi – Neil Mahler
4pm – Mussels – Dr David Aldridge
4pm – 5.15pm – Chris Packham – Chris is due to be here for just over an hour on the day and we are expecting him to be present between these times. Due to his busy schedule, unfortunately, he won’t have much time to speak to the public while he is here. However, he is likely to be around the visitor centre at around 4.45pm for a while. This could change though!
6pm – Mammals – David White
7pm – Bats – Bill Landells
8pm – Event finishes.
An updated list of the above activities will be available on the day. There will also be the opportunity to do some bug hunting and we have plenty of kit to lend out if you need it. There will also be a variety of quizzes and tick sheets to take out with you on the day.
Please note that as we are struggling with water levels due to the recent lack of rainfall, unfortunately there will not be pond dipping on the day. We are very sorry for any disappointment caused.
However, there will be a container full of creatures from one of the reserve pools near the visitor centre on the day. There will therefore be the chance to identify some of the aquatic beasts on the day. Additionally, Dave, our Site Manager will also be bringing one of his fish tanks on the day. This will be displayed in the visitor centre.
