Good morning. This is just a quick notice to say that a little bunting was reported on the riverbank on Monday afternoon. This is a scarce winter visitor to Britain that winters in Scandinavia. Here is a picture of one, that was unfortunately not taken on the reserve:

It looks quite similar to a female reed bunting, but as it's name suggests, it is slightly smaller than its more common cousin. It was reported perched up in the riverbank vegetation alongside the Public Footpath as it runs north of New Fen North, the first area of reedbed. It was then seen to fly north across the river into Norfolk and then out of sight.

Although it has not been seen since, it may well still be in the area so it is worth coming to look for it if you are in the area.

If you are planning to come and visit this week, please note that due to ongoing issues with antisocial behaviour, we will be locking the barrier at the reserve entrance every night at 17.15. It will be opened at 8am at the latest the following morning. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We keep you posted on this situation.

I will return with some more recent sightings on Friday so until then, we hope to see you on the reserve soon!
