Good morning I am very pleased to report that a glossy ibis was found on the reserve yesterday afternoon. It was first seen in the newly cut area at the western edge of New Fen North, the first large area of reedbed. It was visible from the riverbank Public Footpath.

This was only the second confirmed record of this species on the reserve and it is the first time that one has ever been seen on the ground on the reserve. The only other record came on 14 & 15 October 2013, when a bird was seen in flight several times on the reserve.

After spending long enough in New Fen North for those of us who were in the office at time to see it, it then flew onto the Washland. It spent the rest of the afternoon in front of the viewpoint and I am very pleased to say that it was still present this morning.

Site Manager Dave managed to take a photo of it:

...And he also filmed a short video of it, which can be found here

As I type at 9am, it is still present so let's hope it sticks around for a while.

We hope to see you soon!
