Hello there! There have been plenty of sightings of cranes on the reserve over the last couple of days so here are some more recent sightings:
A total of nine cranes were seen in flight from Joist Fen viewpoint on Thursday which is a great count. Several bittern flights were seen and volunteer Roger took this photograph from what we have christened Nigel's Bridge:

This common buzzard was also perched up in one of the poplar woods:

Thank you very much to Roger and David for sharing these great images with us.
There was some excitement when a stoat in full ermine was seen in New Fen viewpoint during the afternoon. This is the first time that one in this condition has been seen on the reserve this winter.
Yesterday, a total of seven cranes were seen in flight from Joist Fen viewpoint. Several bittern flights were also seen and two great white egrets were seen from the Washland viewpoint.
There were four Bewick's swans on the washland early this morning. By the time I got up there, there were eight whooper swans and four shelducks. A great white egret was also feeding nearby.
If you are planning to visit, please note that the riverbank Public Footpath between the Washland viewpoint and Joist Fen viewpoint is still extremely muddy. You will need wellies to negotiate it at present.
We hope to see you soon!
