Thank you very much to Ann and Jane for sharing these great images with us.
A lot has been seen since Saturday so here are some of the highlights:
I got in early and spent some time looking over the washland. I saw/ heard:
Our first willow emerald damselfly was seen near the visitor centre on Sunday. There were also at least 34 black tailed godwits on the washland.
A common buzzard was on the entrance track on Monday and a male marsh harrier was over Brandon Fen. Volunteer John saw a wood sandpiper and dunlin on the washland.
Emma and Suzanne came in early on Tuesday and saw the following on the washland:
I heard two grasshopper warblers reeling near the Washland viewpoint before work yesterday morning. There were at least four common snipe on the washland and a goldcrest was singing in front of the visitor centre.
Suzanne walked around Brandon Fen before work this morning and saw two roe deer. She also saw a flock of long tailed tits and a green woodpecker. A kingfisher was also showing well at the edge of the visitor centre pond.
Local birder Steve and I spent some time looking over the washland this morning and between us, we saw/ heard:
Steve also saw our first small red eyed damselfly of the year over the visitor centre pond.
Just in case you haven’t already heard, we will be hosting Chris Packham’s 2018 UK Bioblitz on Sunday. Please read here for our provisional plan for the day.
Please note that there are still cattle grazing on the riverbank Public Footpath between the Washland viewpoint and Joist Fen viewpoint.
We hope to see you soon.
