A lovely settled period of weather on Islay has made a nice change from the winter's gales and rain.

With the first migrants arriving and birds starting to sing and display it feels like spring is here. The first swallow, wheatears and chiffchaff have been seen this week and this migrant goldcrest was the first one seen this year on The Oa reserve

Whilst migrants arrive from the south, most of our wintering birds are still with us, making for a nice crossover of species about the island. This Iceland gull has been hanging around Loch Kinnabus for a while and hasn't had the urge to return north just yet.
