That’s me home for Christmas and away from Islay for almost a month, there are no volunteers between now and mid-January so before I left I pulled together a few photos of volunteers and staff doing various work around the reserve. Hopefully if you're volunteering next year on the Islay reserves it'll give you some idea of the things you might get up to.
(Cutting back gorse in one of Loch Gruinart's many fields so the stock fencing can be fixed.)
Mark the Oa warden moving and piling up seaweed at Lower Killeyan. This is done in the hope that chough will visit the seaweed pile and feed from the many insects living inside.)
(Picture taken by Richard Gibbs)
(John, one of our volunteers looking for hen harriers during a roost watch at Loch Gruinart.)
(Mary the senior warden and volunteer Richard Gibbs putting back one of the many signs that we took down to be freshened up this winter.)
(Natalie the Project Officer and Mary fixing one of the 19 sluices around Loch Gruinart.)
(All photo's taken by me unless otherwise stated.)
See you next year...
