The Oa reserve contains many hectares of heather covered moorland, and anyone walking this in late summer and early autumn cannot help but notice the Fox moth caterpillars which seem to be everywhere. They go in to hibernation in September, according to my book, so it was a nice suprise to see one out and about last week.
Here's another caterpillar I photographed on the reserve on a beautiful day in September. I think it's a Knot Grass, but I'm not sure!
