Today was a sad day at The Oa as we said goodbye to Richard, photographer, travel writer and window frame maker extraordinaire, and Nat, whose unique abilities at cake-eating and squirrel massage can never be replaced. Tuesdays and Wednesdays won't be the same again.
One of the regular tasks on the reserve is moving seaweed and kelp up the beach into piles (hopefully) out of the reach of the tide. The seaweed is a great breeding ground for sand flies and other insects, which in turn make it an ideal feeding opportunity for the resident chough. Last week's storm and accompanying high tides washed away much of our previous work, so yesterday morning was spent doing it all again. So it goes.
Thanks to Richard Gibbs for the photo.
