We ran our first moth trap of the year here at the Oa this week - it's taken until mid April to get a night calm enough to make it worthwhile. In the event, it was slim pickings, as we only caught 2 moths, both the same species. Here she is, going by the name of Brindled ochre. According to the book, the main flight period for these moths is late autumn, but adult females hibernate through the winter and re-emerge in the spring. The local natural history trust has a handful of autumn records for Islay but none for the spring, so it was all worthwhile.
