Over the past few months we have had trigger cameras on the main island at Hodbarrow. These little boxes are left over a period of time and snap a pic when ever there is movement infront of the sensor. I'm sure many of you have used or seen these cameras before - they are a great tool. We have been using them to determine if and what sorts of predators have been on the island. Thankfully we didn't seem to pick up any land land based predators on any of 1200+ pictures taken. There were alot of geese, gulls and lapwing. I've picked out a few of the best and interesting ones below.
Lapwing at Sunrise
What you looking at?
Juvenile gulls making use of the island - wonder what spooked them.
Heron landing and enjoying the evening at Hodbarrow
Lonely Lapwing staring out to Black Combe - had quite a few pictures of just this guys crest to sort through!
A garganey pair drop in for a visit on the 02/05
Redshanks and dunlin in the dark
Love your trigger camera photos. What an excellent window on the world it affords, when the reserve is undisturbed by us humans.
they are great ,Mhairi, the Heron pic is very sharp.,and yes, love Mr Gull admiring himself-and whils't on the subject of Gulls, there may be some problems !!!.Several Haverigg residents are asking for a Gull cull!!!-yes,these birds seem to be on everyone's hit list ,esp during the breeding season.
