Last week the work party happenned to land on the coldest and windiest day of the week. It was no surprise then that we were accompanied by one volunteer. Chris Lloyd Rogers has to be one of the most dedicated volunteers to show up on wednesday last week raring to go. For Chris' efforts the NWEM reporter turned up to snap a view pictures of us mid hammer! Despite the wind we managed to get alot done and are still going steadily through the construction of our tern work. We were also accompanied by Noel and his diggers which meant not only that the islands were being finished but also that we didn't have to punt across with the generator- result!

We hope to have these islands and fences out in the next couple of months. We'll be monitoring everything closely over the summer to see if they work has been successfull and whether there is anything we can improve on or adjust in the future.

Here are a couple of photos for you ....captions welcome!!

Completing the islands by creating a channel between it and the main island

Walking (or tracking) on water??

Having a look from the hide yesterday the swell on the lagoon was quite high and alot of birds trying to find shelter where they can. The usual were about including Goldeneye, Red-breasted Merganser, Pochard, redshank. Oystercatchers numbers are getting larger now with several flocks flying over me on the sea wall and dropping into the lagoon. Lapwing looked amazing in the wind aswell dropping and swooping. Also seen was the Green-winged teal which is has been spotted over the weekend along with several scaup on the main lagoon. Still no reports of the Slavonian Grebe. As usual if you see anything let me know.

Cheers
