If you are a regular at Hodbarrow you will have noticed a flurry of activity lately at both ends of the reserve. As part of our project we have been using the funding to do some large pieces of work.
The first 'facelift' is to provide easier access to the site for people. We have had contractors in to level out the carpark and put in a new path into the reserve. We hope to follow this up by levelling up some of the other bits under the stone lighthouse in the future. Today we were down putting in posts to prevent cars from damaging the new path which has been laid with people in mind. Both improvements I think have made the reserve look a little more loved. Even one chap in a mobility scooter was very happy with the path and commented as he went past.
The second facelift is for the birds! We are reprofiling the islands in front of the hide to provide more potential nesting areas for birds. After today there will be a break in work for a week or so. If you are looking to come down to Hodbarrow there won't be machines about to spoil your view.
It's all go......
On the bird front this week I haven't had too much time with all the work around to note down many birds. The slavonian grebe was still about on Tuesday as far as I know and I had a scaup (and someone in the gallery has posted one) on monday. Pinks going over head in large numbers last week and a few this week. As I said its been a busy week so if you see anything let me know!!!
