I was down at Hodbarrow last night just as it was getting dark at 4.30 and the place was just alive. As I watched to see the 6 Little Egrets come into roost in their usually position a large flock of starlings came swooping over me in our very own Hodbarrow mini murmuration. Not even in the same league as places like Leighton Moss but enough to make me stop and watch and write about it today!

After this I was particularly chuffed when a flock of 5 Whooper Swan flew over going north up the coast. As I watched those go far into the distance in the fading light a kestrel shot past and onto the reserve. It's amazing what is to be seen within twenty minutes and less than twenty foot from my car in the fading light of Hodbarrow.

Cheers
