Here is yet another brilliant blog by one of our regular volunteers Andy. Andy is a keen cyclist and kindly offered to write a few words for us about cycling around Hodbarrow. There are some photos in the gallery aswell although I think I would also like to see the hilarious outakes that Andy described to me! Thanks Andy!

The Hodbarrow reserve is a great spot to cycle.

My favourite spot is Hodbarrow Point, the views are fantastic and the Duddon Estuary reveals a huge expanse of  sandy habitat at low tide.

The sea wall track (seen on the right in the photo) makes a perfect circular route from the Hodbarrow Reserve to Haverigg. Although level this is not a tarmac cycle path and all the more interesting for it.   The dips and bumps on the Hodbarrow tracks demand a bit of concentration. There are a couple of narrow sections on the path by the lagoon but on the whole visitors on foot and two wheels can mix really well.

Haverigg, via the sea wall, is about 1.5 miles. A circuit from the main entrance at Mainsgate Road, Millom about 3 miles.

Below is a view of the sea wall, late summer 2012.
