Spent a short time at Ham Walls this morning. Bitterly cold wind. We saw at least three sand martins hunting insects over the water from the 3rd viewing place on the path opposite the first platform. We felt really sorry for them arriving back in this weather. Bit of a shock after their winter quarters!!
Hi mozziecat. Yes, I saw them myself and thought exactly the same - poor things. Also saw a couple from the 1st platform. A Swallow was also reported over Waltons yesterday. What must they be thinking! Lets hope the cold spell doesn't last.
