we went back to hams wall early to see the starlings take off on the 9th of feb but the weather was cod and wet. we saw the starlings which was great but we also had a bonus sighting of a barn owl hunting infront of us.
this was taken by the first viewing area.
we went back last saturday but didnt see the owl but saw nemourous other birds including the pied billed grebe.
we stopped and had breakfast at the end of the reserve and whilst having breakfast saw a male tree sparrow. camera was packed back in bag unfortunatley.
other species spotted include the marsh harrier, kingfisher, great white egret, sparrow hawk, a courting pair of great crested grebe, snipe, and bittern.
Thanks for posting your photos and comments!! It's always nice to see the Barn Owls. One has been known to sit on the ledge of the Ban Owl box opposite the 1st viewing platform recently.
I had heard that there had been Tree Sparrows seen down at the cafe. Glad you got a sighting! (and the PIed Billed Grebe too).
