Schools right across the age range can benefit from a class visit to the Avalon Marshes near Glastonbury where RSPB delivers educational visits in partnership with Natural England at Ham Wall and Shapwick Heath.

This spring we have revised our programmes. Do keep an eye for updates on our web page where you will find a menu of half day programmes for all age groups; choose two to make a full day visit or include a  self guided option. http://www.rspb.org.uk/forprofessionals/teachers/schoolvisits/avalon_marshes.aspx

New facilities are going in at Ham Wall all the time: the new much larger car park with coach parking, Tor View hide set right in the middle of the lakes; mini-marshes discovery zone with the Giving Nature a Home trail, permanent toilets, reception building & a new tower hide north of the river opening up access to a new part of the reserve. So keep an eye on the reserve website.

Our partners at Natural England are working to develop the enormous educational potential of Shapwick Heath. The new Discovery Trail is complete opening up an accessible loop through the reed beds suitable for all ages. Development of woodland habitats extends what we can offer to Key Stage 2 & 3 groups. A level groups benefited from the wonderfully diverse meadows along the Sweet Track to bring biology fieldwork to life.
