One of the great assets that Ham Wall has other than it's abundant wildlife is the old railway track that forms the main route through the reserve. I am fortunate enough that this forms part of my cycle journey to work each day. As well as providing excellent access for bicycles, buggys, wheelchairs and those on foot it is also a marvellous gallery of birdsong as almost its entire length is accompanied by a substantial strip of maturing woodland. Every few metres a new territory can be heard to be declared by one species or other. Cettis warbler, dunnock, wren for instance and now over the last week the rythmic sound of the chiffchaff another welcome reminder that winter is departing and spring is truly arriving!
