So… this week’s been a bit chilly! The Beast from East has made its way Southwest and I’m very upset about it, but work continues.

On Monday morning Estate Worker Ashley and I were out doing checks and repairs on the cattle handling facilities around Greylake, as well as re-fixing a sign and picking some litter. I don’t think my wellies are as waterproof as I’d like them to be because not long into the day my socks were damp, and my toes were so cold it was painful. Fortunately, a quick lunch break and sock change later and things were looking brighter; and we finished up the day putting up some deer fencing in one of our small parcels of woodland, where I successfully cut, chiselled and fixed my first supporting strut (I’m very proud, see pic below).

Tuesday saw snow as we were engaged in what I like to refer to as our weekly bramble battle (hedge-laying). Very little settled but it was exciting, nonetheless.

Later in the week we headed out to the Scarp Trail and opened up some sightlines that look out over the levels. The freezing cold weather had turned the wet muddy ground along the trail hard and crunchy, so (unlike a few weeks ago) it was actually walkable!

Here’s hoping next week is a little warmer! See you then.
