1. See a peewit at play! The Northern Lapwing is otherwise known as a 'peewit' which describes the sound this bird makes. There's a really good number of young lapwing now fledged and exploring at Greylake, meeting other birds like this redshank bathing.
2. Dodge a redshank racing around for food! The Redshank is so called due to its long, red, wading legs. It also has a red bill, that fades to a black tip. These two birds are actively finding their fair share of food, while other birds queue up to wait their turn. Can you identify the bird patiently waiting behind them???
3. Wow at yellow wagtails with their canary yellow feathers! This redshank seen in the picture below certainly is - even if this fledged yellow wagtail is yet to get it's adult plumage!!
4. Spot fledged and adult Grey herons and learn the difference! Do you think this is an adult or a fledged bird? The lapwing behind it is keeping it's distance either way!
All the above pictures were taken from the willow viewing screen on our Grass Snake Trail. Get over to Greylake to see for yourself! Many thanks to John Crispin for sending in these pictures.
