If watching the same repeats of Morecambe and Wise or The Two Ronnies on television over Christmas sounds as exciting as watching your relatives fall asleep after their Christmas lunch, then why not pop down to Greylake reserve and do some wildlife watching instead over the festive period?
Lift your spirits with a visit to Greylake. It’s a great place to spend some quiet time on your own to soak up the site's tranquillity. Shelter in our hide, watch the wildlife and enjoy views of the open landscape and hills beyond.
When the batteries finally run out of life in that must have toy, why not bring the whole family down with you and burn off some calories instead? Walk out through our reedbed loop to our willow screening and listen out for bearded tits 'pinging' in the reeds. These lovely birds have been seen recently so on a calm day you may just be lucky to see them.
Greylake is a lovely place for a walk, so why not come and visit over the holidays and marvel at the sight of thousands of wintering ducks feeding right in front of the hide. These include wigeon, teal and shoveler. See if you can count how many of each species there are, just as we did for the BTO Wetland Bird Survey recently. In the hide you will find helpful pictures of each of the ducks and other birds you are likely to see to enable you to identify them.
Don't forget to list the wildlife you see in our records book in the hide and complete one of our visitor surveys to tell us about your favourite sightings.
Merry Christmas and Happy Wildlife Watching for 2014 and beyond!
