This last weekend Saturday and Sunday gave two amazing days to look out for birds at Greylake, particularly from the car park viewing platform and around the Reedbed Loop. From the viewing platform dense flocks of Golden plover were performing, swirling in the sky and joined by Lapwing and Starlings, while Snipe, Little egret, Heron, and Cormorants also passed over at various points. Meanwhile, and looking out directly in front, Brambling, Chaffinch, Reed bunting, and Goldfinch were feeding in the Wild Bird Seed Mix crop. As these overflowed to the car park and nearby trees, they were further joined by Long-tailed tit, Blue tit, Great tit, Wren, Blackbird, and Robin.
Out in the Reedbed Loop additional sightings extended to Bearded tits, although most of the time it was only their characteristic “pinging” giving away their presence. However, it could have finally been the Long-eared owl perched in a tree just next to the boardwalk out to the hide, which stole the show!
