Black Grouse Walk at RSPB Geltsdale - March 2024

About

From early spring, male black grouse gather at dawn to display and vie for dominance, flashing their white tail feathers to impress the female birds hiding nearby. Black grouse are renowned for their elusive nature, so a guided walk offers a special chance to witness a lek first-hand, without the danger of disturbing the birds.

Participants are advised to dress warmly as we will not be using a hide and a short stiff walk might be involved to reach the vantage point.  Tea and coffee will be provided following the walk.

There is an event charge of £15 for RSPB members and £20 for non-members.

All monies raised will support the work of RSPB Geltsdale.

Booking is essential, as places are limited.

PLEASE CONTACT THE RESERVE DIRECT USING THE ORGANISER DETAILS BELOW SO WE CAN KEEP YOU UP TO DATE ON WEATHER.

Please note that we will be watching the birds from a distance that is not suitable for photographing the birds close up, however a telescope will be on hand to get good views.
