This summer get your family out into the countryside, with fun events at RSPB Frampton Marsh running throughout the holidays.
Did you know that pirates used to prowl the seas off the coast from Boston? Well, they have returned and you can follow their tracks on the Pirate Treasure Trail. It runs all day, every day, through the holidays.
Pick up your entry sheet from the visitor centre before setting off around the trail, looking for questions. Answer them correctly and you will get to raid the pirates’ treasure chest! The treasure trail is suitable for children aged 4+ and costs £2.75, with accompanying adults free.
There is another activity with a nautical theme, as every Tuesday through the holiday you can make a miniature raft. Use natural materials such as twigs and leaves, and then see how well it floats. Will your raft sink or swim? Sessions run at 11 am and 2 pm.
On Wednesdays and Fridays you can investigate a watery world with pond dipping. Sessions run at 10, 11, 12, 1, 2 and 3, with an expert guide on hand to identify the creatures from the deep which you catch.
Back on dry land, on Thursdays ‘Mini Monsters’ bug hunts run at 11 am and 2 pm. Beetles, bugs, grasshoppers and butterflies can be caught, will you manage it?
Places on these three courses cost £3.50 per child, with advance booking essential.
On Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July there is a wild night ahead, with a special camping event on the reserve. Pitch your tent, then take part in the fun activities before settling down for the night, surrounded by nature. Booking is essential for this event as places are strictly limited. To take part costs £20 for adults, with children half price. Book via https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/big-wild-sleepout-tickets-34652707180
Chris Andrews, Visitor Experience Manager for the reserve, said; “Summer is here and it is marvellous to get out into the great British countryside. Bring your kids and have a great time surrounded by wonderful wildlife.”
