Well it’s been exactly a year now since I started as a visitor services trainee here at Frampton Marsh and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. My position here is mostly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) as part of the Skills for the Future programme and without them this traineeship wouldn’t be available.

The Skills for the Future programme funds work-based training in a wide range of skills that are needed in the heritage sector. Placements have been created with a variety of organisations all over the country including wildlife trusts, county councils, Historic Scotland, National Trust, Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Tate galleries, RSPB and a whole host of museums.

Yesterday I attended an HLF event where trainees from all over the country came together as a chance to meet each other and discuss what they’d been doing on their placements. It was interesting to see what a wide variety of opportunities trainees had had and what jobs they went on to do.

I’m looking forward to making the most of my last 6 months at the reserve and enjoying the summer. Fingers crossed for a repeat of last years weather!
