Recent Highlights

Black-tailed godwits - 1500 - they put on a fantastic display, wheeling and swirling in unison above the reedbed this today.
House martins and sand martins - the clear weather and wind brought a few hundred house martins and 50+ sand martins through the reserve on Tuesday
Wheatear - one or two individuals seen on the reedbed trail every day this week.
Cape shelduck - originally misidentified (by me) as a juv. ruddy shelduck, this lonesome bird was on the scrapes on Tuesday. Almost certainly an escapee from a local collection,
Whinchat - a single individual seen in the far side of the reedbed from the Visitor Centre on Monday.
Little stint - two seen on the scrapes last weekend and Monday.
Curlew sandpiper - numbers ranging from 2 to 12 seen on the scrapes and reedbed this week.
Pectoral sandpiper - it went away...then came back...now it might have gone again. Seen last night and this morning (Thursday) but not this afternoon.
