Hi again all,
I’m well into my third week now here at Frampton Marsh and getting into the swing of things. Last week I visited RSPB HQ at The Lodge in Sandy for my RSPB induction and it was a great experience. There were people there from all over the country from Orkney to the Isles of Scilly and all working for the RSPB in a range of roles. So what does an RSPB induction involve I hear you ask?!
Well it’s basically an introduction to the RSPB covering topics such as the history, the conservation work they do, the values and a general who’s who as well as a tour of the reserve there. There were plenty of quizzes to keep our minds on the ball, I mean who doesn’t like a good quiz now and again! I got to meet Sophie and Phil, the other two visitor services trainees who are based at different reserves. I’ll be seeing quite a lot of them over the coming months with all the training we’re going to be doing. All in all it was a very good week!

On another note, I have an interesting fact to share that I learnt while I was away. I didn’t know this (although on returning to the office it seems that everyone else does!) but the game Subbuteo was named after a bird of prey called the Hobby. Apparently the inventor wanted to name it Hobby but couldn’t get a trademark granted so he used part of the Latin name instead. I have no doubt that you might know this already but just thought I’d share for those of you who don’t!
Cheerio from Charlotte!
