You wait ages, then everything turns up all at once!

Well, what a weekend. All those northerly winds we've been having (and that have made everything so cold) swung round for the weekend. Strong winds from the south really did bring in all the migratory birds. In the last three days we have had our first:

  • Whimbrel
  • Common tern
  • Swallow
  • House martin
  • Yellow wagtail
  • Whitethroat
  • Willow warbler
  • Green sandpiper

Plus a dozen wheatears hanging around the place and more sand martins and chiffchaffs than we have seen for ages.

Also on the recent sightings, a pair of bearded tits, in one of the reedy ditches. And despite a quick exit from the office, John still failed to see them! (OK, I'll be honest. I missed them too)

Still some winter visitors hanging around. Lots of brent geese and wigeon grazing away. A merlin was hunting over the scrapes this morning and there were a couple of redwing searching out berries in the hedgerow.

Reedbed, freshwater scrapes, saltmarsh and wet meadow. Frampton Marsh has it all! Come and pay us a visit soon.
