We're forecast sunshine this weekend and we all know there's nothing as cheering as a bright wintery day spent at a beautiful nature reserve.

Frampton is just that, and there's loads to see (plus hot chocolate and snacks to warm up with) so why not make time to visit this weekend?

Here's an update on what wildlife is around, what the tides are doing and how the weather is behaving:


Golden plover by Neil Smith

Recent sightings

Hen harrier - seen hunting over the marsh and reedbed every morning this week. At least one female and one male around at the moment
Marsh harrier - also seen hunting over the marsh most days
Merlin - 2 seen perched on posts on the saltmarsh most mornings
Golden plover - large flocks (1100 on Monday and 300+ every day this week) on the wet grassland and fresh water scapes
Kingfisher - seen in the ditches  of the wet grassland on Tuesday
Pink footed geese - up to 50 on the wet grassland all week
Spotted redshank - 2 spotted (pun intended) on the scrapes yesterday
Turnstone - seen on the reedbed from the Visitor Centre yesterday - how unusual!
Whooper swans - not staying anywhere long, but small groups dropping in all week

Friday - cloudy and increasingly windy as the day goes on. Top temperature of 10 degrees with 15mph southerly winds.
Saturday - Clearer skies today with a risk of showers but more bright spells too. Top temperature of 8 degrees with lighter south easterly winds.
Sunday - Generally dry and bright (as always, a risk of occassional showers). Top temperature of 8 degrees with variable westerly winds.
Monday - Cloudies but a little warmer because of this. Rain predicted for last afternoon and evening (but it'll be dark by then so nevermind!)
