Graham (Warden) and I popped into the Visitor centre this afternoon, and had a chat with our new volunteer (Mel), who was enjoying a quiet afternoon. It was great just to take a breather and look out at Frampton Marsh. I spend so much time working and rushing around that sometimes I fail to appreciate what its all for… So it was good just to watch the lapwings, as a few of them have begun to show signs of displaying. Or the Canada geese that are so graceful as the glide through the water. A small group of Bewick’s added some white to the reedbed, making the place seem brighter.

Graham and I walked round to the Scrapes to check on the water levels, and as we left the Visitor centre, the reserve looked great! A dark atmospheric sky, with light raining down through it highlighting white of the birds, moving about on the dark waters of the reedbed below. A pair of coots being territorial, brought suggestions of a good breeding season from Graham’s lips, here’s hoping he’s right!

We made our back to lock up the Visitor centre before, collecting tools for a more exploratory look at the mechanics of the water movements on parts of the reserve. Its nice to be able to be out on the reserve later again, now the day is lasting that bit longer again. On my way inside with the A board, I was stopped by a couple asking if I was Jenny – explaining they read this blog (good to know someone is!, so thank you).

Please do come and explore Frampton Marsh for yourself. Just looking out of the Visitor centre, you can see what an amazing place it is!
