A mystery character has turned up at Fowlsheugh over the winter. She (we think she is a she!) is seen daily lurking around our observation shelter. But don't be alarmed, she is a friendly soul, giving visitors a warm welcome. Where she has come from is a mystery..can anyone can shed any light on this matter. A name for her would be good too. So, any suggestions?
On more serious seabird issues..thanks to Tom for his last blog, you will be delighted to know that puffins are being seen regularly at the usual spots (the grassy bank underneath the cave near the Observation Shelter is the most reliable spot.) Generally, the cliffs are filling up and I heard today that at another reserve in Aberdeenshire, guillemot eggs have been spotted. So, the seabird season 2012 is nearly into full swing. Tom doesn't have to wait too long for his next visit, we are visiting again tomorrow. Tom will be doing most of the breeding kittiwake work this season, so I will "training" him up tomorrow.
We are also meeting a couple of seabird scientists tomorrow who may be undertaking ground breaking research at Fowlsheugh..more info shortly..watch this space.....!!!!
